Mistakes in the field cost baseball team in loss to Harbor

It was a rough day for the Irvine Valley baseball field on Wednesday.

The Lasers made seven errors, which led to seven unearned runs and a 10-7 loss to LA Harbor in a nonconference game at home.

IVC and the Seahawks split their two-game series.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 10-21 overall.

The Lasers took a 3-2 lead with three runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Sophomore left fielder Drew Porter had a two-run double, freshman center fielder Darren Porter added an RBI single and the Lasers scored another run on a Harbor error.

But the game took a turn in the top of the third inning when the Seahawks scored five runs (only four earned) to take a 7-3 lead.

Irvine Valley got two runs back in the bottom of the third on a Harbor error and an RBI single by Shorter.

IVC scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning and then tied the game at 7-7 in the seventh on another RBI single by Shorter that scored freshman third baseman Kevin James.

But like in the top of the third, errors cost the Lasers in the top of the eighth inning when LA Harbor took the lead for good.

The Seahawks scored three runs (all unearned) on two IVC errors and went on to win, 10-7.

Sophomore right-hander Austin Chapman took a tough loss for the Lasers. He pitched well in relief, going six innings and giving up three runs (all unearned) on four hits and one walk with one strikeout.

For Irvine Valley at the plate, Shorter was 3 for 4 with three RBI, sophomore shortstop Nick Madole went 2 for 3 with a walk and one RBI and sophomore right fielder Noah Madole walked three times and scored a run.

Andrew Revelo led Harbor with three hits, including a double and one RBI and Robert Olguin had two hits and three RBI.

Irvine Valley is back in action on Tuesday in Orange Empire Conference play, traveling to Orange Coast at 2 p.m. The Lasers will host OCC next Thursday at 2 p.m.
