Irvine Valley's baseball team finished the 2022 regular season with one of its best performances of the season.
Sophomore left-hander Nate Madole threw seven and a third strong innings, freshman left fielder Jack Haggerty finished with three hits and freshman first baseman Casey Kudell and freshman shortstop Nick Madole each had two RBI to help the Lasers defeat Golden West, 5-3.
Irvine Valley ends the 2022 regular season with a record of 17-23 overall and 5-16 in conference play.
Golden West fell to 22-18 overall and 8-13 in OEC play.
The Lasers broke open a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with four runs.
Kudell had a RBI single up the middle and then Nick Madole followed with a first-pitch, line-drive, triple into the left center field gap that drove in two runs.
Later in the inning, Noah Madole singled down the right-field line to drive in another run and give Irvine Valley a 5-1 lead.
Freshman right-hander Austin Chapman repleased Nate Madole and pitched the final two innings to pick up his third save of the year.
Nate Madole went 7.1 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts.
Chapman picthed the final 1.2 innings and gave up two hits with two strikeouts.
Haggerty went 3 for 4 with a double and two runs scored to pace the IVC offense in the leadoff spot.
Kudell was 1 for 3 with two RBI, freshman third baseman Shane Kary added two hits, including a double and walked once, and Nick Madole went 2 for 4 with a triple, one run scored and two RBI.
Notes: Irvine Valley freshman first baseman Casey Kudell finished third in Orange Empire Conference play with a batting averae of .423 (30 of 71) and had a batting average of.378 overall.
