Baseball team rallies past Chaffey for seventh straight win

Irvine Valley's baseball team didn't get off to a great start on Wednesday in its match-up with Chaffey at the OC Great Park.

The Lasers fell behind 5-0 after two innings.

But IVC never gave in and battled back to pull off a 9-7 victory.

The win was the team's seventh straight and improved its record to 8-3 overall.

Down, 5-0, the Lasers got back in the game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. They scored all four runs with two outs.

Freshman designated hitter Noah Madole had an RBI double, sophomore center fielder Joey Lapolla, who walked with two outs to start the rally, scored on a balk and freshman shortstop Nick Madole hit an RBI single to make it a 5-3 game.

The Lasers took the lead for good in the botttom of the sixth inning with five runs.

Again, IVC did all of its damage with two outs.

Freshman third baseman Shane Kary and freshman first baseman Casey Kudell each had RBI singles and then with the bases loaded, freshman catcher Connor Tallakson had the big blow, coming through with a three-run double to right center.

Irvine Valley had a 8-5 lead.

Chaffey came back with two runs in the top of the seventh to make it a one-run contest, but the Lasers added a run in the bottom half of the frame and held on from there.

Freshman right-hander Ryan Barlow picked up the win for Irvine Valley. He went six innings, giving up seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts.

Freshman righty Sammy Murphy closed out the game with two scoreless innings for the save. He didn't give up a hit and had two strikeouts.

Tallakson went 2 for 4 with a walk, two doubles, a run scored and three RBI and Nick Madole went 3 for 4 with a run and one RBI to pace the offense.

Freshman left fielder Jack Haggerty went 1 for 2 with a run, one RBI and three walks and freshman right fielder Bradley Wilkison was 1 for 3 with a walk, a run scored and two stolen bases.

Kary, Kudell and Noah Madole each also drove in a run for IVC.

Tyvon Moore hit a two-run home run for Chaffey and Jared Bujanda, Cole Howarth and Alex Cummings each had two hits for the Panthers.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday, traveling to College of the Desert for a noon start. The team will also take on COD on Saturday at 1 p.m.
