Baseball team beats San Bernardino Valley in doubleheader

Irvine Valley's baseball team is on a four-game win streak after sweeping a doubleheader against San Bernardino Valley on Friday at the OC Great Park Stadium.

The Lasers won the first game, 12-5, with a seven-run, fourth inning and a strong start on the mound by sophomore left-hander Nate Madole.

Madole went seven innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts.

He picked up his first win of the season.

Freshman right-handers AJ Johnson and Austin Chapman closed out the game with an inning apiece. Chapman pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

IVC finished with 13 hits in the game and had five players with at least two hits.

Freshman third baseman Shane Kary went 3 for 5 with a stolen base, three runs scored and one RBI.

Sophomore center fielder Joey Lapolla was two for four with a run scored an three RBI. Lapolla hit a bases-cleaing double in the bottom of the fourth to help give IVC a 11-1 lead.

Freshman right fielder Bradley Wilkison had two hits, a stolen base and scored two runs, freshman left fielder Jack Haggerty had two hits, including a triple and one RBI and freshman catcher Adrian Reveles went 2 for 3 with a double, a run and two RBI.

Reveles got the Lasers going in the bottom of the first inning when he hit a double to left field that scored both freshman first baseman Casey Kudell and Kary.

Irvine Valley jumped out to another big lead in the second game, scoring four runs in the second inning and two more runs in the third inning to take a 7-0 lead.

Haggerty and Kary had big games at the plate again. 

Haggerty went 2 for 3 with a triple, a walk and two RBI. Kary weas 1 for 2 with a walk and three RBI. 

Freshman designated hitter Conner Hatz walked twice and scored three runs, freshman third baseman Tyler Cayetano was 2 for 3 with two runs and one RBI and freshman catcher Connor Tallakson went 1 for 3 with a triple, a run and one RBI.

That was more than enough for Weigman, who recently signed with Division I Campbell University. He went four innings and gave up two runs on three hits, but had nine strikeouts with no walks.

Weigman picked up his first win of the year.

The Lasers are back at it on Saturday, traveling to Compton for a game at 1 p.m.

They will be back home next Wednesday, hosting Chaffey at noon at the OC Great Park - Field 10.
