Irvine Valley's baseball team won its first two games in the David Buttles Tournament at College of the Desert late last week.
The Lasers defeated San Diego City, 7-2, on Thursday and then beat San Bernardino Valley, 14-4, on Friday.
IVC was scheduled to play host College of the Desert on Saturday, but the game was washed out by rain.
The two teams are scheduled to make up the game on Wednesday at COD.
Last Thursday, Irvine Valley used two runs in the top of the fifth and three runs top of the sixth to pull away from San Diego City.
Freshman right fielder Dane Kakatsuka hit an RBI double in the fifth to give Irvine Valley a 3-1 lead.
Sophomore second baseman Trent Whitaker then hit an RBI single to push the lead to 4-1.
In the sixth inning, freshman shortstop Robert Haw reached on an error, which brought in a run. Freshman left fielder Kyle Dobson later singled to drive in Haw and then Whitaker hit a double to bring in Dobson and push the Lasers' lead to 7-1.
That was more than enough for Irvine Valley sophomore pitchers Chad Burchit, Paul Colignon and Matt Wong.
Burchit got the start and earned the win. He went five innings and gave up one run on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
Colignon went three innings in relief and gave up one run on three hits and one walk and Wong closed out the game in the bottom of the ninth. He struck out two batters.
Sophomore center fielder Ben McConnell went 2 for 3 with two walks, a double and one run scored, Whitaker was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI, Dobson went 2 for 5 with one RBI and freshman designated hitter Joey Lapolla was 1 for 4 with a double and two RBI to lead the Laser offense.
Then on Friday, Irvine Valley had 20 hits in its win over San Bernardino Valley.
IVC was up, 5-3, through four innings and then scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the game away.
The big blow was a three-run home run by Lapolla in the bottom of the fifth.
McConnell had three more hits, going 3 for 5 with a walk and three runs scored.
Lapolla was 2 for 3 with a home run, two runs and four RBI, Dobson was 2 for 4 with three RBI, sophomore third baseman David Rojas went 2 for 5 with one RBI, freshman first baseman Pu'ukani De Sa went 2 for 4 with three runs, and freshman second baseman Luke Armstrong and Whitaker each added two hits.
Sophomore Nick Janowicz moved to 2-0 on the year on the mound. He pitched six innings and gave up three runs (one earned) on four hits and five walks with five strikeouts. Freshman hurlers Anthony Castillo, Dane Little and Adam Auriemma each threw an inning to end the game.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 4-1 with the two victories. The team is scheduled to play again on Tuesday at San Diego City and at College of the Desert on Wednesday.
