Irvine Valley's baseball team couldn't get past Long Beach City for a second day in a row.
The Lasers fell to the Vikings, 7-4, in the IVC home opener on Saturday.
The two teams have split the first two games of the series and will play the decider on Tuesday at Long Beach City at 2 p.m.
IVC got off to a great start, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead.
Sophomore second baseman Trent Whitaker knocked in freshman leftfielder Kevin Dobson and sophomore centerfielder Ben McConnell with a single up the middle.
But Long Beach City took control after that. The Vikings scored a run in each of the top of the second and third innings and added three runs in the top of the fourth.
Zach Rivas' single off of Irvine Valley sophomore starting pitcher Keenan Cisneros gave Long Beach City lead for good in the fourth.
The Vikings made it a 5-2 lead on a two-run home run by Rafeeq Rahim later in the inning.
An RBI double by Mark Stanford in the top of the fifth put Long Beach City ahead, 6-2.
The Lasers fought back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman first baseman Kevin Fowler singled in freshman rightfielder Dane Nakatsuka. And then Fowler later stole home to make it a 6-4 game.
But it wasn't quite enough.
Long Beach City added a run in the top of the ninth to put the game out of reach.
Cisneros took the loss for IVC. He went five innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and one walk with one strikeout.
Sophomore Chad Burchit pitched the final four innings in relief for the Lasers. He gave up one unearned run on five hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
Dobson had his second straight three-hit game for Irvine Valley. He went 3 for 5 with two runs scored.
Fowler was 2 for 4 with one RBI and Whitaker went 2 for 5 with two RBI.
Stanford was 3 for 3 with a walk and one RBI, Raheem went 2 for 4 with the home run and two RBI and David Balboa and Travis Aversa were each 2 for 4 for Long Beach City.
Michael Ramirez earned the win, going 4.2 innings and giving up four runs (three earned) on eight hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
Trevor Sutt picked up the save, pitching the final 4.1 innings for the Vikings.
