Irvine Valley's baseball team scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to rally for a 8-5 win at West Los Angeles on Friday afternoon.
It was IVC's second straight win and improved their record to 6-2 on the season.
The Lasers will play West LA again on Saturday, but this time at Irvine Valley at noon.
On Friday, IVC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Freshman left fielder Clint Jack was hit by a pitch to lead off the game.
Freshman center fielder Dillon Millar then doubled to put runners on second and third base.
Jack and Millar both later came home on passed balls.
West LA tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the third inning on a walk and two hits.
West Los Angeles got two more runs in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead.
Irvine Valley tied the score at 4-4 in the top of the fifth.
With the bases loaded, sophomore shortstop Zach Vittetow walked to bring in freshman catcher Brendan Williams, who had walked to lead off the inning.
And then an RBI groundout by Jack scored freshman designated hitter Trey Ryan, who was hit by a pitch earlier in the frame.
The Wildcats came back with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly to go ahead, 5-4.
And that is the way it remained until the top of the ninth inning.
Irvine Valley freshman first baseman Lucas Tancas was hit by a pitch to open the inning.
West LA starting pitcher Jeffrey Davis was then lifted for a reliever.
Tancas moved to second on a passed ball and sophomore third baseman Adam Vargas walked.
Williams then hit an RBI single that scored Tancas and tied the score at 5-5.
Ryan was intentionally walked to load the bases.
After an out, Vargas was able to score what turned out to be the winning run on a passed ball.
Then with two outs, freshman outfielder Alex Diaz hit a two-run double that scored Williams and Ryan and gave Irvine Valley a 8-5 advantage.
IVC freshman reliever Joseph Chacon gave up a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth inning, but he struck the next two batters out and then got a groundout to end the game.
Chacon earned the win in relief. He went five strong innings, allowing one run on three hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
Freshman right-hander Marco Bedolla made his first ever start on the mound for IVC.
He went four innings and gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks with one strikeout.
For Irvine Valley, Tancas was 2 for 3 at the plate. Diaz went 1 for 2 with two RBI.
Williams was 1 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored and Ryan went 1 for 2 with a walk and a run scored.
