Beach volleyball star Sydney Dews headed to College of Idaho

Irvine Valley women's freshman beach volleyball player Sydney Dews has committed to NAIA College of Idaho.

Dews, out of Crean Lutheran High in Irvine, was one of the top players for the Lasers this past season.

She helped IVC to an Orange Empire Conference Eastern Division title.

And then she shined in the postseason.

At the California Community College Athletic Association Women's Beach Volleyball State Championship, Dews and partner Gabi Brown reached the round of 16 in the event at West Valley College in Saratoga last month.

The duo played in the No. 2 pairs lineup for Irvine Valley.

Brown and Dews entered the event as the No. 10 seed from the So. Cal. Region.

Dews was named a first team all-Orange Empire Conference player for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley finished the season with a record of 13-12 overall and 9-1 in the OEC.

The College of Idaho Athletics added Beach Volleyball as an intercollegiate program for next season, becoming the fifth program in the Cascade Collegiate Conference and the second in the state of Idaho to officially offer the sport.
