Beach volleyball season comes to a close in pairs round of 16

The beach volleyball season ended for Irvine Valley on Saturday morning at West Valley College in Saratoga.

IVC's top two pairs of sophomores Barett Nolan and Chloe Swanson and sophomore Gabi Brown and Sydney Dews each fell in their matches in the round of 16 at tthe California Community College Athletic Association Pairs State Championship.

Nolan and Swanson fell to Orange Coast rivals Zapata-Reaves and Williams, 23-21, 21-18.

It was the same duo that Nolan and Swanson fell to in the Orange Empire Conference Championships final in three sets.

Brisa Zapata-Reaves and Corinne Williams went on to the title match on Saturday at state before falling to the Grossmont pair of Madison Bogle and Alana Embry, 10-21, 21-18, 15-12.

IVC's team of Brown and Dews fell to the evental state champion team of Bogle and Embry, 21-9, 21-18, in the round of 16.

It was still a successful season for the Lasers with three pairs making the state tournament (sophomore Angie Griego and freshman Tessa Marocco also appeared) and the team going 9-1 in the OEC and winning the Eastern Division. IVC reached a regioinal final before falling to Orange Coast at the Newland Courts in Huntington Beach earlier this month.
