Beach volleyball team starts OEC play with easy victory

Irvine Valley's women's beach volleyball team had no problem with Santa Ana in its first Orange Empire Conference match of the season Thursday afternoon at home.

The Lasers defeated the Dons, 5-0, to run their record to 3-0 overall.

IVC defeated both El Camino and MiraCosta, 5-0, last week to start the year.

But it is what Irvine Valley has coming up next that will be fun.

Irvine Valley hosts the University of Oregon in a pair of matches on Friday afternoon and then hosts Long Beach State, which is ranked No. 14 nationally, and UC Berkeley, which is No. 11, on Saturday morning.

On Thursday in its conference contest with the Dons, the Lasers won three matches and received two fefaults.

At the No. 1 match, freshmen Jolie Rasmussen and Tasha Mae won, 21-5, 21-10.

IVC also received victories from freshman Jaclyn Sanchez and Emily Guenter, 21-16, 21-9, on the second court and freshmen Chloe Swanson and Barett Nolan, 21-1, 21-6, on the third court.

Fans are welcome to the IVC beach courts this weekend with social distancing.
