Irvine Valley women's baskeball coach Jason Garey and men's volleyball coach Rory Jones have been named the deparment's coaches of the year for 2022-23.
Garey, in his first year at the helm of the women's basketball team, helped guide the squad to a record of 21-9 overall and a mark of 8-4 in the Orange Empire Conference.
The Lasers reached the California Community College Athletic Association So. Cal. Regional Final before falling on the road to Orange Coast.
Jones helped lead the Irvine Valley men's volleyball team to another special season. The Lasers had a record of 16-3 overall and went 7-1 in the OEC.
IVC shared the OEC championship with Orange Coast and was ranked as high as No. 1 in the state.
The Lasers reached the California Community College Athletic Association state semifinals.
