Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Oct. 17 is sophomore women's volleyball player Angelina Griego.

The outside hitter helped the Lasers to two Orange Empire Conference wins last week.

Irvine Valley swept Fullerton on Wednesday at home and then Santiago Canyon Friday on the road.

With the wins, IVC stayed on top of the conference standings with a record of 7-1. Irvine Valley has a mark of 11-4 overall.

The Lasers also jumped three spots in the state rankings this wek to No. 9.

Griego had five kills with no errors in seven attempts in IVC's 25-3, 25-19, 25-16 victory at Santiago Canyon on Friday. She hit .714 and also added seven digs.

Against Fullerton last Wednesday, Griego ended with two kills, three aces and had a team-high 16 digs.

On the year, Griego is averaging 1.05 kills and 2.00 digs per set.

The Lasers play again on Wednesday at home. They begin the second round of conference play with a match against Riverside at 6 p.m.
