Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team started slow on Friday night against Riverside at home in an Orange Empire Conference match.
But IVC rallied for a 26-24, 25-14, 25-21, which was its sixth victory in a row and improved the record to 8-7 overall and 8-2 in conference.
The Lasers are in a tie for second place in the OEC with Saddleback and Golden West at 8-2.
Irvine Valley found itself down, 19-12, in the first set.
But the Lasers rallied.
Irvine Valley out-scored the Tigers, 14-5, the rest of the way.
A kill by sophomore outside hitter Alya Mersin pulled IVC within 22-20.
Riverside hit out to make it a 22-21 game.
The Lasers made it even at 22 after RCC hit into the net.
A block by by freshman middle blocker Samantha Schellenberg put Irvine Valley in the lead, 23-22.
Riverside tied the set at 23 when IVC hit out.
But a tip winner by Mersin gave Irvine Valley a 24-23 advantage.
It was 24-24 after the Lasers hit out.
A serve out by RCC and then a lift call by the Tigers gave Irvine Valley the first set.
Irvine Valley jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the second set and never looked back in cruising to the win.
And IVC battled throughout in the third set to win its sixth straight match.
Mersin had 14 kills and hit .367 on the night. She also added six digs.
Schellenberg and freshman middle blocker Jazlynn Fu each added seven kills. Fu also contributed three blocks.
IVC freshman setter Tori Esko finished with 17 assists, four aces and three digs and freshman outside hitter/setter Dalilah Rivero ended with 15 assists, four kills, three aces and five digs.
The Lasers are at Orange Coast in a conference match on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
