First-year women's volleyball head coach Kari Hemmerling's first win at Irvine Valey is in the books.
Hemmerling and the Lasers started off Orange Empire Conference play with a 25-23, 25-15, 25-9 win at Santiago Canyon on Wednesday.
The Lasers moved their record to 1-5 overall and 1-0 in conference. They next play at Riverside in a conference match next Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Irvine Valley hit .408 as a team and was led by freshman outside hitter Emma Mendel with nine kills. She also hit .353 and added six digs.
Freshman outside hitter Dalilah Rivero finished with eight kills, hit .400, had 10 assists, four aces and three digs in the match.
Sophomore outside Alya Mersin contributed seven kills and five digs and sophomore libero Emmi Scelzo finished with nine digs for IVC.
Freshman setter Tori Esko had 14 assists to go along with four kills and two aces for Irvine Valley.
