Golfer Katie Stribling places second at Industry Hills match

Irvine Valley's women's golf team played in its final match before the Orange Empire Conference Championships and got another strong showing from freshman Katie Stribling.

The Lasers took on the "Babe" course at the Industry Hills Golf Club.

The course was named for Babe Didrikson Zaharias, one of America 's most decorated all-around athletes.

The OEC players competed on the 6,088, par-71 layout of the 650-acre course.

IVC's Stribling finished second in the event.

Eunsoo Jeon of Fullerton was the medalist at 3 over par 74.

Stribling shot 4 over par 75.

IVC coach Ailam Newkirk said that Stribling hit 17 greens in regulation, but missed some puts on the day.

Irvine Valley freshman Emily Crowl came in with a score of 110.

Saddleback won the team scoring at 343, finishing 18 shots ahead of host Mt. San Antonio.

Stribling and Crowl will participate in the conference championships beginning on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Los Serranos in Chino Hills.

The tournament will wrap up the following Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m.

Stribling goes into the championships second in individual scoring. She trails Fullerton's Jeon by just three strokes overall.
