Bhanubandh is medalist, women's golf team takes second in match

Irvine Valley women's sophomore golfer Marisa Bhanubandh earned medalist honors in the second Orange Empire Conferece match of the season on Wednesday at the Diamond Bar Golf Course.

Bhanubandh came through with a score of 75 and helped lead the Lasers to a record of 3-1 in the conference match.

IVC defeated all teams, but Saddleback on the day.

Irvine Valley finished with a four-player team score of 351. Saddleback went 4-0 with its score of 341.

Mt. San Antonio was third at 355, Fullerton carded 365 and Orange Coast came in at 375.

Irvine Valley went 4-0 in the first OEC match on Monday at Costa Mesa, meaning IVC and Saddleback are now tied for first place with records of 7-1.

Irvine Valley freshman Araceli Esquivel was second in the match with a score of 76. Esquivel was the medalist of Monday's contest.

Esquivel has an average of 77.5 for 18 holes through two conference matches, which leads the OEC. Bhanubandh is right behind at 78.0

Irvine Valley's third scorer on Wednesday at Diamond Bar was freshman Akie Sannomiya, who finished at 98. Sophomore Alexis McLachlan carded 102 to round out the Lasers' scoring.

Freshman Esther Kim had the throwout score of 116 for IVC.

Irvine Valley will play at Morro Bay in a tournament Saturday through Monday. Morro Bay is the site of this year's state tournament in November.
