In leading up to the start of the 2016-17 athletics campaign at Irvine Valley, which starts on Aug. 26 with women's soccer hosting a match, the Laser athletic department will count down the top 10 IVC sports stories from the 2015-16 school year.

Tied for No. 10 on the list was the performance put forth by sophomore Hyerin Kim last fall for the Lasers. She tied for sixth place at the California Community College Athletics Association State Championship at the Morro Bay Golf Course.

Irvine Valley sophomore golfer Hyerin Kim tied for sixth place at the California Community College Athletics Association State Championship at the Morro Bay Golf Course in November.

Kim just missed all-state honors at the two-day event.

The top six players earned all-state honors, headed by Santa Barbara City's Carolin Chang, Citrus' Jamie Lopez, College of the Desert's Fumika Matsumoto (155), Citrus' Lexandra So (159), and College of the Canyons' Tiffany Whittaker (162).

Brittany Bilek of Palomar won a card-off over Kim and Sierra's Dollesin for the sixth slot after all three ended up with two-day totals of 163. The card off rule used the final nine holes of the second day of the competition.

Kim shot 82 the first day and then 81 on the second day. She finished the second day strong with six straight pars to post a 3 over par of 40 on the final nine holes.

On the first day of the tournament on Sunday, Kim had three birdies, on the final none holes to stay in the hunt. The first day of the tournament was delayed for one hour due to rain and wind.

Santa Barbara City won the team title.

Irvine Valley's Kim had a solid season, finishing third at the Orange Empire Conference Championships and second overall in the conference in scoring average with an average 18-hole score of 80.0.

She finished with a two-day score of 160 at the Southern California Regionals at the Alisal River Course to get to state.

Kim shot 82 on Sunday and finished up the event with a 78 on Monday. She ended up seventh overall at regionals.
