Irvine Valley's women's golf team finished second in the final standings for the Orange Empire Conference.

The Lasers finished up the two-day conference championships tournament on Tuesday at Woods Valley Golf Club in Valley Center.

Irvine Valley placed fourth in the tournament with a combined two-day record of 10-6.

The fourth place finish was still strong enough to keep Irvine Valley in front of Fullerton and Palomar for second in conference.

College of the Desert won the conference finals with a record of 16-0, Fullerton was second at 14-2, Palomar was third at 12-4 and IVC came in fourth at 10-6 in the nine-team field.

Desert went undefeated during conference play with a record of 96-0 overall. Irvine Valley was second at 74-22 with Fullerton (71-25) in third and Palomar (60-36) in fourth.

Irvine Valley had three players named all-conference after the conference championships.

Sophomores Leleaga Meredith and Cindy Dang were named all-conference for the second straight year.

Meredith had back-to-back scores of 78 at the conference event.

Dang finished with scores of 85 and 87.

Freshman Rebecca Peng was picked as a second-team all-conference player after ending with rounds of 87 and 86.

Meredith, who finished third individually in state last season, ended up finishing third in the final conference individual stroke average. She came in at 77.1 stroked per 18 holes of golf during conference play.

Only Fumika Matsumoto (74.5) and Samantha Stewart (76.3) of College of the Desert were better.

Dang ended up fifth on the list with an average of 80.7.

Peng was 11th of the list at 83.6.

Irvine Valley, along with College of the Desert, Fullerton and Palomar, qualified for the Southern California Regionals next Monday and Tuesday at the Temecula Creek Inn Resort.

Irvine Valley will be trying to advance to the CCCAA State Championships at the Morro Bay Golf Course Nov. 16-17.
