Women's golf team retains second place in standings

Irvine Valley's women's golf team claimed seven wins at the Monday's Orange Empire Conference match at Costa Mesa Country Club.

In the event, which was hosted by Orange Coast, Irvine Valley finished with a team score of 345 to edge Palomar, Fullerton and Saddleback for second.

College of the Desert won with a score of 314.

Irvine Valley was next with 345 with Palomar and Fullerton both at 347. Saddleback came in fifth at 350 in the nine-team field.

Irvine Valley ended with a record of 7-1 to improve its record in conference to 50-14. The Lasers are in second place in the standings. Desert leads at 64-0.

Fullerton is in third at 47-17.

Irvine Valley bounced back from a tough match the week before at Arroyo Trabuco where it had a record of 4-4.

Leading the way for IVC at Costa Mesa was sophomore all-state player Leleaga Meredith. She tied for medalist honors on the day with a 2 over par 72 score on the Mesa Linda course.

Meredith tied with College of the Desert's Fumika Matsumoto at 72.

Freshman Rebecca Peng shot a solid 84 and sophomore Cindy Dang came in at 88 for IVC.

Freshman Stuti Mandal finished at 101, which tied for her second-best score of the season and freshman Rachel Watson carded 106 to round out IVC scorers.

Irvine Valley travels to Twin Oaks, Palomar's home course, for the next conference match on Wednesday.
