Women's golfer in second place after first round at state

Irvine Valley freshman women's golfer Leleaga Meredith is second at the State Championships after a round of 76 on Monday at the Tracy Golf and Country Club in Tracy.

Meredith trails Santa Barbara's Fanny Johansson by two strokes (74) heading into the second and final day of the tourney on Tuesday.

Par on the Tracy course is 73.

Meredith was the No. 2 ranked golfer in the Orange Empire Conference this season.

Irvine Valley's other player at the state event, freshman Cindy Dang, sits 16th after shooting 84 on Monday.
