Men's volleyball team ranked No. 3 in the state for second week

For the second straight week to start the California Community College Men's Volleyball Coaches Association State Poll, Irvine Valley is ranked No. 3.

Orange Coast comes in at No. 1 once again.

The Pirates have a record of 11-1 overall and scored a big win in straight sets at Irvine Valley last Friday night, 25-20, 25-22, 27-25.

OCC is led by Will Anderson, who is averaging 3.89 kills per set.

Long Beach City is ranked at No. 2 in the poll and has a record of 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the South Coast Conference. But the Vikings were upset by El Camino last Friday night.

The Warriors won, 23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-18.

Erik Hernandez had 14 kills for Long Beach City. He leads the state at 4.67 kills per set.

Irvine Valley stays at No. 3. The Lasers swept at Santiago Canyon and then battled, but lost to Orange Coast at home last week in three sets.

The Lasers got 10 kills from Karl Stenlund in the defeat to the Pirates. Colin Chillingworth is averaging 2.66 kills per set.

El Camino, with its big win over Long Beach City last Friday, moves up to No. 4.

The Warriors were led by Travis Hannemann with 19 kills. Vladimir Kubr dished out 34 assists.

El Camino has two more important matches this week, playing at No. 10 Santa Barbara City on Wednesday and at No. 6 Moorpark on Friday.

Miramar drops a spot to No. 5 this week. The Jets have a record of 7-3 and defeated both Palomar and San Diego Mesa in our sets last week.

Miramar is paced by Miles Dewhirst, who ranks eighth in the state, averaging 3.26 kills per set.

No. 6 is Moorpark, who fell to Long Beach City in four sets last week, but has a five-game win over El Camino. Michael Stahl is fourth in the state in total kills at 134.
