Men's volleyball team falls in three, tough sets to No. 1 OCC

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team battled, but fell in three sets in a battle between two of the top teams in the state.

Orange Coast, ranked No. 1 in the state defeated No. 3 Irvine Valley, 25-20, 25-22, 27-25, Friday night at IVC.

Irvine Valley's record went to 11-3 overall and 1-1 in Orange Empire Conference play. OCC went to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in conference.

The Lasers had their chances, but the Pirates closed out each set strong.

Irvine Valley was led by freshman outside hitter Karl Stenlund, who finished with 10 kills, hit .381 and had four digs and two blocks.

Freshman outside hitter Colin Chillingworth added eight kills, freshman setter Donovan Gudino had 20 assists with freshman Andrew Perez contributing nine assists for the Lasers.

IVC freshman libero Adam Schulte had nine digs.

Irvine Valley is back in action next Wednesday in a conference match at Golden West at 6 p.m.
