Men's volleyball team has impressive start to 2022 season

Irvine Valley opened the season last Friday night with an impressive sweep at Antelope Valley in a non-conference match.

IVC won the contest, 25-17, 25-14, 25-20.

The Lasers, who captured the Orange Empire Conference title last spring, return a number of players from that squad along with several standout newcomers.

Irvine Valley hit .348 as a team in the match and was led by one of those newcomers.

Caden Perkins, a 6-9 freshman opposite, finished with 10 kills, hit .438 and had four digs and five blocks.

Returning Orange Empire Conference MVP Colin Chillingworth also had a solid match. The freshman outside hitter had nine kills, five digs and hit .538.

Freshman outside hitter JT Demure added six killsk, four digs and three blocks, freshman middle blocker Julio Gutierrez contributed six blocks, freshman libero Adam Schulte had 11 digs and freshman setter Andrew Perez ran the offense with 22 assists.

The Lasers expect to get some tough tests next Saturday when they play in the Orange Coast Quad event.

Irvine Valley plays Long Beach at 10 a.m. and El Camino at 4 p.m. at Orange Coast.
