Irvine Valley men's volleyball coach Ryan Windisch announced this week that sophomore standout libero Red Ramos has signed with Westcliff University.
Ramos has been a two-year starter for the Lasers and helped IVC make a remarkable run to the California Community Athletic Association State Championship in 2019.
The Lasers upset top-seeded and undefeated Orange Coast in four sets in the semifinals at the state event at Fullerton College before falling to Long Beach City in three sets in the title match.
Irvine Valley finished with a record of and ended up being ranked No. 2 by the California Community College Men's Volleyball Coaches Association in the final state poll of 2019.
Ramos had a season-best 11 digs in Irvine Valley's big win over Orange Coast last season.
He shined for Irvine Valley through 13 matches before the 2020 season was cancelled by the California Community College Athletic Association for the health of safety of student-athletes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Irvine Valley was 6-7 this year and in each and every single match. The Lasers had dropped four matches in five sets.
Ramos was averaging 1.92 digs per set. He led the team in digs per set and total digs with 96.
He also ranked third in the Orange Empire Conference in total digs.
Ramos, who came to IVC from El Toro High, is headed to a Westcliff program that competes in the Cal Pac Conference.
Westcliff was 7-9 so far this season before its season was cancelled. Westcliff took a set before losing in four to the No. 13th-ranked NCAA Division I Concordia men's volleyball team in its final match of the season on Mar. 5.
