Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team honored sophomores Robert Ryley and Peter Van Liefde on Friday night.
The Lasers then went out and tried to make their careers last a little longer at IVC.
Irvine Valley swept Miramar, 25-19, 25-16, 25-13 in a Pacific Coast Conference match at home.
The win kept Irvine Valley alive in the race for the playoffs with two matches left in the regular season.
The top three teams from the conference move on to the postseason.
IVC (10-8, 7-5) went into Friday night's contest in fifth place, but just one match behind both Grossmont and San Diego Mesa for third in the conference standings.
Grossmont and San Diego Mesa took on each other Friday. IVC plays at San Diego Mesa in a huge contest next Wednesday.
Ryley, a middle blocker, finished with five kills and four blocks and Van Liefde, a setter, ended with three kills, two aces and 18 digs to lead IVC to the victory on Friday.
"Those guys are an absolute please to coach," IVC coach Ki Yi said. "They have showed constant improvement while they've been here. Robert is the best undersized middle blocker in the conference in my opinion. Peter went from an attacker to a setter. He is leading this team and doing a good job. They are both great kids and the type of guys we want in our program."
Freshman outside hitter Garret Costello added seven kills, freshman outside hitter Ruben Lopez had five kills and two aces and freshman opposite Kyle Radecki finished with four kills, six blocks and three aces for IVC.
Miramar saw its record fall to 1-14 overall and 0-10 in conference.
