Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team had its three-match winning streak halted at home on Friday night.

The Lasers fell to a hot San Diego Mesa squad, 20-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-21 in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference match.

It was San Diego Mesa's fourth straight win in conference and lifted the Olympians' record to 6-6 overall and 4-2 in conference.

San Diego Mesa moved into a three-way tie for third place in conference with Irvine Valley and Grossmont.

Mesa swept Grossmont earlier this week.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 7-5 overall and 4-2 in conference.

Golden West continued to lead the conference with a record of 5-0 with Orange Coast right behind at 5-1.

Irvine Valley plays at Golden West next Wednesday and hosts Orange Coast next Friday in what turns out to be a big week for the Lasers.

IVC played well to win the first set on Friday only to see San Diego Mesa grab the next three sets. The Olympians won both the second and third sets 25-23.

The Lasers had an early lead in the fourth set, going up, 8-2, on a kill by freshman outside hitter Ruben Lopez and a block by freshman ???  Miguel and freshman middle blocker Jake Heinrichs.

Mesa climbed back to within 11-10 when IVC won the next two points on a block by sophomore setter Peter Van Liefde and a kill by sophomore middle blocker Robert Ryley.

But the Olympians tied the set at 14-14 on a kill by Troy Jenkins and then two points later took a 16-15 lead on a block by Travis Doyle.

It was back and forth from there with the set tied at 16, 17, 18 and 19.

Mesa scored two points in a row to take the lead for good, however, getting a kill by David Sandoval and an ace by Mike Grenier to take a 21-19 advantage.

IVC got within 21-20 and 22-21, but San Diego Mesa won the final three points of the match.

A kill by Wyatt Pederson set up match point and a net violation on IVC ended it.

Irvine Valley was paced by freshman opposite Kyle Radecki, who had 14 kills. Ryley added 10 kills and freshman outside hitter Garret Costello finished with nine kills.

Heinrichs added six kills and six blocks, freshman libero Josh Evers had 11 digs and Van Liefde ended with 41 assists, four blocks, nine digs and eight aces.
