Men's tennis player Leonardo Oliveira off to Westcliff

Irvine Valley sophomore men's tennis player Leonardo Oliveira has signed with NAIA Westcliff University in Irvine.

He was a two-year player for IVC and helped the Lasers nearly reach the California Community College State Championship last season. IVC finished with a record of 12-2 and won an Orange Empire Conference title in 2019.

The Lasers were off to a solid start in 2020 before the season was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Irvine Valley was off to a 5-1-1 start with its only loss coming in a 5-4 loss at Cerritos. IVC also tied four-year program Hope International. The Lasers were inline once again to challenge for a conference title and make the So. Cal. Regional Playoffs.

Oliveira played primarily doubles in the lineup and at the No. 2 position with fellow sophomore Jacob Holiday. The duo was 3-3 in matches so far this season.

Oliveira is headed to a Westcliff team that will begin its first official season in 2021.
