Ross Duncan to be honored as Junior College Coach of the Year

Irvine Valley's Ross Duncan will be honored this weekend for being named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Junior College Men's Coach of the Year.

Duncan will receive the award at the 2019 ITA Coaches Convention, which is set to begin on Friday at the Naples Grande Beach Resort in Naples, Fla.

The four-day event is scheduled to run through Monday, Dec. 9.

The annual coaches' convention brings together coaches from all five collegiate divisions (NCAA DI, DII, DIII, NAIA and Junior College) while featuring some of the most influential people in the sport of tennis and a diverse segment of exhibitors and ITA sponsors displaying the latest tennis products, equipment and technology.

Since 1985, the ITA Coaches Convention has served as the gathering point for the association's annual meetings, which includes its Board of Directors and Operating Committee meetings.

The 2018-19 Wilson/ITA National Coaches of the Year and the recipient of the 2019 Meritorious Service Award presented by Conant Leadership will be honored at the Wilson Awards Luncheon on Saturday, Dec. 10.

Duncan led Irvine Valley to another fine season in the spring of 2019.

The Lasers captured an Orange Empire Conference title, won 11 of their first 12 matches, went 12-2 overall and 8-0 in conference on the year and ended up just one match from making another state tournament championship final appearance.

Duncan was announced as the award winner in April at the CCCAA State Championship Banquet before the event started in Ojai.

Duncan led Irvine Valley to three straight CCCAA State titles from 2015-2017. At the end of the 2017 season, IVC had won 35 straight matches and was 58-3 over the 2015-17 stretch with the only three losses coming to four-year schools.
