Men's tennis team ranked No. 1, women's squad No. 7 in So. Cal.

Irvine Valley's men's and women's teams were each ranked in the top 10 in Southern California in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Poll.

It is the first time that both teams have been in the top 10 at the same time.

The Irvine Valley, which won its second straight Orange Empire Conference title last week and has a record of 14-1 overall, was first in So. Cal. on the men's side.

Led by sophomores Guillermo Ucelay, Simon Guillin, Valentin Baize and Max Rumeau and freshmen Flavien Raveau, Bruno Figlia, Carson Williams, Scott Paz and Tony Selim, the Lasers were ahead of College of the Desert, San Diego Mesa, Cerritos, Ventura, Saddleback, Grossmont, Riverside, Glendale and Orange Coast.

Irvine Valley has beaten San Diego Mesa, Cerritos, Saddleback (twice), Grossmont, Riverside (twice) and Orange Coast (twice) so far this season.

The Lasers have concluded the regular season and await the announcement of the team regional playoffs, which are slated to start April 7.

IVC, which suffered its only loss this season to four-year NAIA school Concordia, will be the top seed in Southern California.

Irvine Valley's women's team is ranked seventh in Southern California in its poll.

Mt. San Antonio leads the way at No. 1 and is followed by Glendale, Riverside, Santa Barbara, Cerritos, Santa Monica, Irvine Valley, College of the Desert, Grossmont and Ventura.

Irvine Valley has two matches left in the regular season this week. It was scheduled to play at No. 1 Mt. SAC on Tuesday and then at Saddleback on Thursday.

The Lasers have won six of their last seven matches and are coming off an 8-1 victory over Orange Coast last Thursday.

Irvine Valley, which is led by sophomores Renee Walton, Ashley Athanas, Marissa Woolsey, Christie Yamasaki, Ruth Chou and Parmida Navabsafavi, has a record of 9-4 overall and 7-2 in conference.

A win over Saddleback on Thursday would clinch sole possession of second place in conference for IVC.
