Martin McGrogan
Title: Head Coach
Phone: (949) 451-5654

Martin McGrogan is the only head coach in Irvine Valley men's soccer history. The program begun under McGrogan's watch in 1991. The Lasers have won two state titles (1993 and 2003), finished second in the state (1992) and are a playoff contender year in and year out.

McGrogan has two main goals for his student athletes - to help them attain their educational goals, and second, to play competitive soccer.

"At IVC, we understand that long after the drama of victory and defeat have been forgotten, your education has not," McGrogan said.

With that in mind, McGrogan continually strives to emphasize the importance of education to the student athletes.

McGrogan has been fortunate to have many of our student athletes transfer to four-year institutions (several with athletic scholarships) such as UC Irvine, University of Denver, University of Portland, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, Cal Lutheran, Chapman, Concordia, Cal State Los Angeles, UC Santa Barbara and Vanguard, just to name a few.

In addition to the student athletes who have continued their educational goals, Irvine Valley men's soccer has also had two players compete in Major League Soccer: Brad Wilson (Los Angeles Galaxy), and Ryan Tinsley (Kansas City Wizards and Chicago Fire).

IVC has also been represented in the professional indoor soccer league by Matt West (Anaheim Splash). West, who went on to play for the Utah Blitz in the USISL, is now the successful head coach of the Mater Dei High girls soccer program.

McGrogan thanks many people for their continued support of the men's soccer program, including Dr. Phil Stanley, IVC's founding athletic director, former athletic director Aracely Mora, trainers Janet Olsen and Devin Adams, counselor Sheryl Kempkes, equipment manager Andrew Alhadeff, sports information director Brent Shaver, former assistant coach Clyde Best, former assistant coach and current supporter Jovan Stojanovsky, current assistants Alex Zotinca and Simon Davies, former assistant coach and new women's head coach Joe Supe and athletic director and dean Keith Shackleford.

"I would like to thank all of the student athletes who have taken pride in representing the Irvine Valley College Lasers in the program's existence," McGrogan said. "They have all shown class on and off the playing field. May they always achieve their goals."
