Men's soccer team stays unbeaten in OEC with shutout win at OCC

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team stayed unbeaten and at the top of the table in the Orange Empire Conference with another win on Tuesday.

Irvine Valley defeated Orange Coast, 2-0, at OCC.

The Lasers, who are ranked No. 10 in the state in the latest poll, improved their record to 6-2-2 overall and 3-0-0 in conference. They have out-scored their three conference opponents, 9-1.

Both goals on Tuesday came in the first half for the Lasers.

Freshman forward Toby Waterman scored on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute to put the Lasers out in front.

It was Waterman's team-leading seventh goal of the season.

The Lasers increased their lead just before the end of the first half.

Freshman midfielder Jose Rivera scored off an assist from Kendrick Nguyen in the 44th minute.

Irvine Valley's defense, led by sophomore Cesar Ortiz and freshmen Marcos Cervantes and Khalid Francis and freshman goalie Hagen Truniger, held tough in the second half for the shutout.

Truniger made six saves in goal.

Irvine Valley plays next on Friday when it hosts Santiago Canyon in a conference match at 3 p.m.
