Men's soccer team moves up to No. 10 in state rankings

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team moved up five spots in the weekly California Community College Athletic Association state poll this week.

The Lasers, who were ranked No. 15 last week are now 10th.

Irvine Valley had a solid two games last week to open up Orange Empire Conference play. The Lasers went on the road to beat Norco, 4-0, last Tuesday and then defeated Fullerton, 3-1, at home on Friday.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 5-2-2 overall.

Rio Hondo moved up to No. 1 in the state poll. The rest of the top five features De Anza at No. 2, Mt. SAC at No. 3, Hartnell at No. 4 and Oxnard at No. 5.

Irvine Valley's two losses this year have come to Rio Hondo and Hartnell.

Irvine Valley has out-scored its opponents, 25-13, this season led by six goals each by freshman forward Toby Waterman and freshman midfielder Jose Rivera and five goals by freshman forward Connor Elder.

The Lasers play at Orange Coast on Wednesday and then host Santiago Canyon on Friday at 3 p.m.
