The Irvine Valley's men's soccer team has a winning streak.

The Lasers captured their second match in a row and second of the season with a 2-1 victory over Norco in an Orange Empire Conference contest at home on Friday afternoon.

IVC defeated Cypress, 4-1, on Tuesday.

The wins improved Irvine Valley's record to 2-5-8 overall and 2-3-3 in conference.

"I am happy for the kids because there have been a lot of games this year where we played well, but didn't get any kind of result," Irvine Valley Coach Martin McGrogan said. "They have continued to work very hard each and every day."

Two sophomores scored for Irvine Valley in the victory over Norco.

But the goals came after Norco (6-8-1, 1-5-2) got on the board first.

In the 20th minute, Irvine Valley misplayed a ball in the back that got behind freshman keeper Bryce Williamson and rolled into the net for an own goal. The goal was credited to Norco's Nestor Navia.

Irvine Valley bounced back, however.

In the 27th minute, sophomore forward Joe Rousseau scored on a header off a cross from freshman midfielder Bogarth Avalos to tie the score.

IVC had plenty of more opportunities to score. Freshman midfielder Israel Reyes shot just over the top of the goal after a nice fake on a defender, Rousseau had a long-range shot sail over the crossbar, Reyes had a shot cleared off the line by a Norco defender and Rousseau had another shot saved by Norco keeper Martin Gonzalez.

But the Lasers found the back of the net later in the second half.

Avalos sent a free kick in from the left side that got through a few players and found the feet of sophomore defender Andres Valentin.

Valentin took a touch and then beat Gonzalez with a shot.

The Lasers held on after that.

Williamson ended up making three saves in goal.

"I thought we played well," McGrogan said. "I like that we are creating so many more chances."

Irvine Valley plays again on Tuesday, hosting Fullerton at 3 p.m. It is part of a doubleheader with the IVC women's team, which takes on Norco at 1 p.m.
