Men's golfer Troy Nueva finishes up season at regionals

Irvine Valley freshman men's golfer Troy Nueva finished 11th among the individual participants at the California Community College Athletic Association SoCal Regional on Monday at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills.

Nueva had the lowest score at the Orange Empire Conference Championship a week earlier to advance to the regional. At the OEC championship, he finished with rounds of 74 and 72 for a total of 146.

At the regional, Nueva started strong with a morning score of 74, which was tied for fourth among individuals, but he shot 94 in the afternoon round and finished with a total of 169. It took a total of 150 for an individual to move on to the state championship.

College of the Canyons won the regional team event with a score of 726. Mt. San Antonio finished second (732), Santa Barbara was third (739) and Cypress came in fourth (740).
