Men's golf team ends regular season with match at Oak Creek

Irvine Valley's men's golf team played its lone home match of the season on Wednesday at Oak Creek.

The Lasers ended with a score of 404 to finish sixth out of six teams.

Santiago Canyon won the match and picked up five wins with a s core of 373.

Riverside was second at 379, Orange Coast came in third at 381, Cypress was fourth at 384 and Saddleback placed fifth at 385.

Despite taking two losses, Orange Coast remained in first place in the conference standings with a record of 35-10.

Santiago Canyon's Michael Lascari  was the medalist on the day with a 1 over par 71.

The Hawks had five players shoot in the 70's in the round. Austin Trcka shot 72 and James Hochsprung came in at 73.

Irvine Valley was paced by sophomore Joe Gordon, who shot a 5 over par 76.

He continued his string of scores in the mid 70's. It was his third straight time in the 70's and fourth time in the last five matches.

Gordon had one birdie, 12 pars, four bogeys and a double bogey.

Sophomore Andrew Lichty followed with two birdies, nine pars, six bogeys, and a triple bogey for a 78.

Freshman Bruce Miranda finished at 79 with three birdies, seven pars, seven bogeys and a quadruple bogey.

Sophomore Steven Zezima had one birdie, six pars, nine bogeys and two double bogeys to card 83.

And freshman Albert Arvayo finished at 88 to round out IVC's scoring. He had two birdies, six pars, four bogeys, three double bogeys, two triple bogeys and a quadruple bogey.

Freshman Randy Flores birdied his first hole for the Lasers, but had to withdraw later due to a minor injury.

The team will now prepare for the 36 holes, in one day conference finals, at the Los Serranos North and South Course on Monday, April 25.

Gordon will have a chance to advance to the SoCal Regionals based upon his scores at the conference finals.
