Men's golf team finishes sixth at Tijeras Creek

Irvine Valley's men's golf team shot a team score of 407 and finished in sixth place at Monday's Orange Empire Conference match hosted by Saddleback at Tijeras Creek.

Santiago Canyon won the event with a score of 367. It edged Orange Coast's score of 368.

Santiago Canyon moved into a tie for first place in the conference standings with records of 28-7.

Irvine Valley is still looking for its first win in conference.

Freshman Mike Lorrimer shot 75, freshman Mike Noblitt finished at 80, sophomore Jed Meng came in at 81, freshman Jeff Lacambra carded 85 and sophomore Zach Alcock came in at 86 for the Lasers.

Coach Ben Burnett was pleased with Lorrimer's results. Lorrimer finished his last three holes with a birdie, birdie and then a par and nearly had three birdies. His put lipped out on the final hole.

"He has continued to produce the competitive type scores needed to win matches in the Orange Empire Conference," Burnett said. "He showed promise of a brighter future for the men's golf team program."

Lorrimer had four birdies, eight pars, five bogeys and one double bogey for his score.

So far this season, Lorrimer leads the Lasers with a 76.5 scoring average. He ranks 16th in the conference.

Noblitt finished with one birdie, 10 pars, five bogeys and two double bogeys and Meng had one birdie, nine pars, six bogeys and two double bogeys.

Sophomore Zach Chavous had the team's throw-out score of 88.

Irvine Valley's men's golf team doesn't play again until April 2. Orange Coast is hosting a conference match at Santa Ana Country Club.
