Irvine Valley's men's golf team had two eagles and six birdies in its Orange Empire Conference match at El Prado in Chino on Wednesday.
But it was still not enough for the Lasers to pick up their first conference victory of the season.
Orange Coast placed first with a 1 over par team total of 361.
Two of its players posted subpar rounds of 69 and 70. Par for the course was 72.
Riverside followed with a team score of 367.
Host Santiago Canyon was third at 372. Santiago Canyon's Nico Mendoza was the medalist with a 5 under par score of 67. Saddleback took fourth with 375.
Irvine Valley finished with a score of 392, which was seven strokes behind fifth-place Cypress.
The Lasers' record in conference slipped to 0-30. Orange Coast leads the conference standings at 24-6 and Santiago Canyon is second at 23-7.
IVC Coach Ben Burnett said the conditions were perfect to shoot low scores at the El Prado Chino Creek course.
"After the first nine holes, Jed Meng, Zach Chavous and Mike Lorrimer gave indications that we would battle for one or more wins," Burnett said. "Collectively they were even par, paced by Mike Lorrimer's 1 under par. However, they were a collective 11 over par on the final nine holes."
Meng, a sophomore, had two birdies, 12 pars, three bogeys and a double bogey for a score of 3 over par 75.
"His only major error was four-putting, from 10 feet on the par 3 16th hole," Burnett said.
Chavous, a sophomore, had two birdies, 11 pars, four bogeys and a double bogey for a score of 4 over par 76.
"His only major error was a double bogey on the par 5 17th hole," Burnett said.
Lorrimer, a freshman, had one eagle, two birdies, eight pars, six bogeys and a double bogey for a 4 over par score of 76.
Lorrimer's eagle came on the par 5 17th hole.
Freshman Nate Noblitt had one eagle, 12 pars, two bogeys, two double bogeys and a triple bogey for a 7 over par score of 79.
Noblitt's eagle was also on the par 5 17th hole.
IVC's fifth and final scoring total came from sophomore Zach Alcock, who had five pars, 12 bogeys and a double bogey for a score of 86.
Freshman Josh Whitesides had IVC's throw-out score of 91 with seven pars, seven bogeys, one double bogey, two triple bogeys and one quadruple bogey.
IVC's next match will be Monday at Tijeras Creek.
