Men's golf team in sixth after first day of Tee Off Classic

The Irvine Valley men's golf team finished sixth on Monday in the opening round of the Orange Empire Conference division of the annual two-day Tee Off Classic at Los Serranos in Chino Hills.

The squad finished with a five-player score of 402, which was an 18-stroke improvement from its effort at the Riverside Invitational two weeks ago.

"We continue to improve, however, for this IVC team to be competitive, we need to get even better," Irvine Valley coach Ben Burnett said. "Team scores above 385 are unlikely to beat many teams in the traditionally tough Orange Empire Conference."

For Irvine Valley on Monday, sophomore Zach Chavous led the way with a 4 over par score of 76.

He had one eagle, two birdies, eight pars, six bogeys and one double bogey in his round.

Sophomore Zach Alcock shot 6 over par 78, sophomore Jed Meng carded a 8 over par 80 and freshman Nate Noblitt came in at 12 over par 84.

Alcock had one birdie, 10 pars, six bogeys and one double bogey, Meng finished with 10 pars and eight bogeys and Noblitt had six pars and 12 bogeys.

Freshman Timothy Albelita (84) and freshman Josh Whitesides (89) had the two throwout scores for the Lasers.

The Tee Off Classic continues on Wednesday at Los Serranos.
