Irvine Valley's men's basketball team couldn't hold on Tuesday night.

The Lasers led by 15 points at halftime against El Camino, but were out-scored by 17 points in the second half in a 69-67 loss on the road.

Irvine Valley had five players score in double figures, but it wasn't enough.

Sophomore forward David Georgiev had 12 points and nine rebounds, freshman forward Sadiq Muhammad added 11 points and freshman forward Christian Louis, sophomore guard Isaiah Mahmud and sophomore guard Geoff Salas each contributed 10 points.

Irvine Valley out-rebounded El Camino, 42-26, but hurt itself from the free throw line, making just 16 of 27 shots (59.3 percent). El Camino made 26 of 32 free throws (81.3 percent) in the win.

The Lasers also turned the ball over 16 times.

Irvine Valley College led, 40-25, at the half. The Lasers closed out the first half with a 9-0 run.

But it wasn't enough.

The sophomore duo of Justin Reyes (20 points, 5 of 12 on 3-point attempts) and Justin Chambers (14 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists) led El Camino.

El Camino tied the game at 50-50 with 10:35 left and it was back and forth from there.

El Camino had the ball with 37 seconds left in the game before a turnover by Chambers led to a fast break opportunity for the Lasers. Georgiev was able to punch in an offensive rebound off a missed layup to tie the game at 67-67 with 18 seconds left.

But Chambers sank a running jump shot down the right side with five seconds to go for the Warriors.

Without any timeouts left, the Lasers went for a long inbounds pass to their front court and Mahmud's three-point attempt hit off the rim.

Irvine Valley plays again on Thursday at the Monterey Peninsula Tournament. The Lasers face Hartnell in the opener of the tourney at 3 p.m.
