Irvine Valley's men's basketball team let the game and its winning record get away Tuesday night in a 60-56 overtime loss to El Camino at home.
El Camino out-scored Irvine Valley, 7-0, to end regulation and then won overtime, 9-5, to earn the victory.
It was Irvine Valley's third straight defeat and dropped the team to .500 overall with a 7-7 record. El Camino, which came into the game having lost two straight and five of six contests, improved to 4-6 overall.
Irvine Valley took a 51-44 lead with 2:50 to play after freshman forward Craig Magyar made one of two free throws.
But IVC, which led by as many as nine points early in the second half, didn't score again in regulation.
Derrick Twiggs hit a three-pointer with 1:28 to play to get El Camino within 51-47.
After IVC missed a three-pointer, El Camino's Malik Wildermuth grabbed an offensive rebound and made a layup on the other end to make it 51-49 with 49 seconds to play.
After another three-point miss by the Lasers, El Camino grabbed the defensive rebound and called timeout with eight seconds remaining.
El Camino's Emmanuel Pope was able to get free and throw down a dunk to tie the score, 51-51, with five seconds left.
Irvine Valley sophomore point guard Jalen Hall's off balance three-pointer from the right corner came up short at the buzzer.
IVC scored the first two points of overtime, getting a pair of free throws by sophomore center Andrew Bastien to go up, 53-51.
El Camino answered with a free throw to make it 53-52 with 4:10 left in overtime and then another free throw to tie it, 53-53, with 3:23 left in the extra period.
A layup by Magyar put Irvine Valley in front, 55-53, with 3:02 to play.
Christopher Munoz made a jumper for the Warriors to tie the score, 55-55, with 2:41 left.
El Camino took its first lead since early in the second half at 57-55 on two free throws by Pope with 1:57 left.
The Warriors never trailed again. Darrion Hatfield sank two free throws with 21 seconds left to give El Camino a 59-55 advantage.
A free throw by Munoz with five seconds left in overtime sealed the 60-56 win for the Warriors.
IVC made just 1 of 7 field goals in the overtime period.
Irvine Valley was led by Magyar with 14 points and five rebounds. Golden had 11 points and four rebounds, sophomore forward Chris Porter added nine points and five rebounds and Andrew Bastien had six points and four blocks before fouling out in overtime.
El Camino was paced by Munoz with 17 points. Kane Wildermuth had 12 points and eight rebounds. He went 8 of 10 from the free throw line. Malik Wildermuth contributed 11 points and five rebounds for the Warriors.
El Camino out-rebounded Irvine Valley, 40-29, in the game. The Warriors also out-scored Irvine Valley by nine points at the free throw line in the game (22 to 13).
Irvine Valley shot 43.5 percent (20 of 51) overall from the field for the game, but was just 3 of 18 (16.7 percent) from three-point range.
Irvine Valley will try and get back on track on Saturday when it plays at LA Valley at 5 p.m.
It is the Lasers' final game before the start of Orange Empire Conference play in January.
