Bougher and Murphy lead baseball team to impressive road win

Irvine Valley's baseball team finished its three-game Orange Empire Conerence series with a strong effort at Santa Ana on Saturday.

The Lasers played and pitched one of their best games of the year, beating the Dons, ranked No. 5 in the state, 3-2.

The win improved Irvine Valley's record to 16-21 overall and 4-14 in conference and Santa Ana fell to 27-9-1 overall and 11-7 in conference.

Freshman left-hander Seth Bougher pitched five solid innings, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Freshman righty Sammy Murphy came in after and pitched four scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and two walks with five strikeouts. He earned the win and improved his record to 4-7 overall.

Irvine Valley fell behind, 2-0, after the third inning, but battled back and tied the game on a two-run single by sophomore center fielder Joey Lapolla in the top of the eighth.

The Lasers grabbed the lead as freshman designated hitter Adrian Reveles scored on a wild pitch from third base in the top of the ninth inning.

Murphy closed out the Dons in the bottom of the ninth.

Irvine Valley finished with six hits on the day with Lapolla going 1 for 4 with two RBI and freshman left fielder Jack Haggerty tallying two hits.

The Lasers play again in the final OEC series of the season, starting next Tuesday against Golden West at the OC Great Park Stadium at 2 p.m.
