Freshman right-hander Dallas Carpenter pitched well for Irvine Valley.

He took the tough loss, but went eight strong innings, allowing just five hits and no walks. The lone run he gave up in the top of the seventh innings was unearned.

Carpenter (1-2) finished with five strikeouts.

Irvine Valley is back at it on Saturday at noon against San Bernardino Valley. The Lasers will first resume Thursday's 12-12 game that was halted in the 10th inning due to darkness at San Bernardinio.
