Baseball team loses again to hot Fullerton squad

Irvine Valley's baseball team fell, 9-2, to Fullerton in the second game of a three-game Orange Empire Conference series on Thursday at IVC.

Fullerton captured the series with the win. The Hornets also beat the Lasers, 10-6, on Tuesday at Fullerton.

The final game of the set is on Saturday at Fullerton at noon.

The Hornets, who are ranked second in Southern California put Thursday's game away with four runs in the top of the sixth and three more in the top of the seventh innings.

Fullerton had 16 hits on the afternoon.

Joey Parente went 4 for 6 with two RBI, Shane Carrier was 3 for 5, David Miranda went 2 for 3 with two walks and three RBI and Austin O'Banion was 2 for 3 with a walk and one RBI to pace Fullerton's offensive attack.

Anthony Parente pitched seven innings of shutout ball, giving up four hits and two walks with five strikeouts to earn the win on the mound for Fullerton. He improved to 5-0.

Irvine Valley scored its two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs.

Freshman first baseman Alec Ceniceros and sophomore center fielder Dillon Millar each had RBI singles.

Millar was 2 for 5 with one RBI, sophomore third baseman Branden Williams went 2 for 4 and Ceniceros was 2 for 3 with one RBI.

IVC sophomore pitcher Jason McClellan took the loss. He went three innings and gave up two runs, but neither were earned. He allowed four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Sophomore Brennan Guinet pitched two scoreless innings for the Lasers to close out the game. He gave up three hits and one walk and struck out one.

Fullerton improved its record to 24-8 overall and 12-5 in conference play. The Hornets remained in second place, three games behind first-place Saddleback.

Irvine Valley's record fell to 13-19 overall and 4-13 in conference.
