Baseball team has two-game win streak halted at home

Irvine Valley's baseball team couldn't get anything going Tuesday afternoon and lost to Long Beach City, 8-0, in a nonconference game at home.

The win snapped a two-game win streak for the Lasers and dropped their record to 5-4 overall.

Long Beach City improved its record to 5-5. The victory was also a program-record win for coach Casey Crook. It was his 514th career win, passing Joe Hicks for the most in Viking history.

Long Beach City took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning on Tuesday on a three-run home run by Jackson Foss off IVC sophomore starting pitcher Kyle Goodbrand.

The Vikings added a run in the top of the fourth and then posted four runs in the top of the ninth inning. Three of the runs in the ninth came on a three-run home run by Sean Williams.

It was more than enough for left-handed starting pitcher Daniel Rocha, who went six innings and gave up just three hits and two walks. He finished with two strikeouts. Rocha improved his record to 2-1.

Steven Nuno threw the final three innings for the save. He allowed two hits and had one strikeout.

Goodbrand took the loss to fall to 2-2. He gave up four runs (two earned) in four innings. Goodbrand gave up six hits and two walks.

Sophomore Cole Millerd tossed four scoreless innings in relief for IVC after that, giving up four hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

IVC had just five hits on offense. Sophomore left fielder Clint Jack, freshman second baseman Tyler Odekirk, sophomore catcher Branden Williams, freshman right fielder Weston Ellis and freshman designated hitter Joseph Gomez had a hit each.

Irvine Valley plays again on Thursday at Long Beach City at 2 p.m. and then plays again Friday at West Los Angeles.
