Baseball team looking to respond in second week of season

Irvine Valley's baseball team looks to get back on track tonight when it plays at Mt. San Antonio in a game under the lights at 6 p.m.

The Lasers saw their record slip to 1-2 overall last Saturday with a 3-1 defeat at Mt. San Jacinto. It was the team's second straight loss.

Zevon Brandt threw a complete game for Mt. San Jacinto for his first win of the year. He gave up one run on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

Irvine Valley freshman pitcher Adam Lamar made his first start and threw well.

He went five innings and gave up three runs (one earned) on seven this with two walks and two strikeouts.

Sophomore Cole Millerd pitched three shutout innings after that. He gave up one hit and three walks and had three strikeouts.

Mt. San Jacinto scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the third inning on four hits a walk and one IVC error.

IVC scored its lone run in the top of the ninth inning.

Sophomore Jordan Gillerman singled to open the inning. Sophomore center fielder Dillon Millar then reached on an error and Gillerman moved to third.

Freshman Alec Ceniceros reached on a fielder's choice to drive in Gillerman.

Freshman Kyle Golden followed with a single to put runners on first and second, but the Lasers couldn't get any more runs.

IVC finished with seven hits on the day.

Sophomore left fielder Clint Jack went 2 for 4 and freshman second baseman Tyler Odekirk was 2 for 3 for IVC.

Jack its hitting .538 (7 for 13) through three games for Irvine Valley.

After Tuesday night's game under the lights, IVC plays its next two games at home. It hosts Mt. San Jacinto on Thursday at 2 p.m. and then Mt. San Antonio on Saturday at noon.
