Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team played well in its 2020 opening matches, but didn't have enough against one of the top, four-year, Division 1 schools in the country.
Sixth-ranked Pepperdine swept IVC in two matches on Friday at Irvine Valley.
No Waves' (2-0) pair dropped a single set to IVC (0-2) throughout the day with Alexis Filippone and Gigi Hernandez clinching the first win of the day on court three 21-13, 21-11, over Irvine Valley's duo of sophomores Kendall Nolan and Alaina Thomas.
Newcomer duo Hannah Frohling and Mary Sinclair clinched the second dual for Pepperdine with a 21-12, 21-11 victory on court five over the Laser team of sophomore Kristin Austin and freshman Lexie Periera.
Irvine Valley's top duo of sophomores Lea Kruse and Gabriela Griego battled, but fell to Pepperdine's No. 1 team of Deahna Kraft and Brooke Bauer in the first match, 21-18, 21-11, and in the second tally, 21-12, 21-11.
The Lasers play again next Friday, hosting three teams in an all-day event. Santa Clara, Cal State Bakersfield and Concordia travel to Irvine Valley for a slew of matches that begin at 10 a.m.
