Irvine Valley's women's beach volleyball team hosted the first Shave Ice Invitational against three NCAA Division 1 schools on Sunday at its new beach courts facility.
The Lasers lost all three matches, but coach Tom Pestolesi was impressed not only with how his team played, but the overall atmosphere of the event.
Irvine Valley lost to fifth-ranked Hawaii, Stanford and TCU each by the scores of 5-0.
"All of the teams and coaches enjoyed being here on a great day for beach volleyball," Pestolesi said. "And they all said they would like to come back and do it again.
"I thought we played tough and battled the best that we could against some of the best players in the country. I was proud of our team and the way we competed."
The No. 2 pair of Ally Sassman and Brittany Tuliau were a highlight on the day for IVC.
Irvine Valley's record fell to 1-7 overall, but all seven losses have come against four-year schools.
Irvine Valley will start Orange Empire Conference action next Friday against Fullerton and Orange Coast at the Newland Street Courts in Huntington Beach.
