Olsen was first drawn to sports medicine during her 10 years as a competitive gymnast at the club and collegiate levels. She was named an All-American gymnast in 1980. Olsen was honored to serve as a Staff Athletic Trainer at the 2003 World Gymnastics Championships and 2004 U.S. Gymnastics Olympic Trials.
IVC EXPERIENCE
Olsen currently teach KNES-85 Introduction to Athletic Training, as well as three classes of Sports Medicine Internships, KNES-212, KNES-213 and KNES-214. In her 25-plus years at IVC, Olsen has enjoyed mentoring more than 200 athletic training, physical therapy and fitness industry internship students as they learned alongside her in the athletic training clinic and classroom.
She has been enriched over the years by working closely with talented coaches, driven athletes across a variety of sports, and being present when IVC teams captured numerous State Championships. As an Athletic Trainer, she has seen Irvine Valley student-athletes at their highs and lows, and watched them struggle with injury and triumph through adversity. She says that their uplifting victories have lifted her up, as well.
PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS
As an active member of the National Athletic Trainers Assn (NATA), College Athletic Trainers Society (CATS), California Athletic Trainers Assn (CATA), and the California Community College Athletic Trainers Assn (CCCATA), Olsen consistently attends numerous athletic training symposiums and conferences to ensure incorporation of the most up-to-date research in lectures and labs, as well in practice at the IVC athletic training clinic.
Olsen received the ImPACT Concussion-Trained Athletic Trainer Certification (ITAT), and she holds certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid.
In conjunction with the National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association (NESTA), Olsen authored a successful on-line Sports Injury Specialist Certification home study course.
