
The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team is playing some teams tough so far in the 2024 season.
But it hasn't shown up in the win column just yet.
The Lasers are getting closer, but saw their record slip to 0-6 after a pair of losses in the Santa Barbara City Quad event last Friday.
Irvine Valley started the day with a 25-22, 25-20, 25-27, 25-3 defeat to Bakersfield.
The Lasers played even better against Santa Barbara City, but were on the short end of a 25-23, 23-35, 22-25, 25-17, 15-11 loss to the Vaqueros.
SBCC, ranked No. 18 in the state last week, improved its record to 7-1 on the season.
Against Bakersfield, sophomore outside hitter Audrey Fowler and freshman opposite Hailey Oldham each ended with 14 klills for the Lasers.
Fowler also added 13 digs, while Oldham contributed 17 digs.
Freshman setter Emmi Scelzo ran the offense with 42 assists. She also had nine digs and two aces.
And sophomore libero Kayla Torres finished with a team-high 26 digs for the Lasers.
IVC took on Santa Barbara City next and Oldham led the way with 14 kills with Fowler adding 11 kills.
Scelzo led the offense attack with 33 assists. Torres contributed a team-high 21 digs, whie Fowler had 18 digs.
There were also three other IVC players with double-digit digs in the contest.
Sophomore libero Nikki Korneff ended with 14 digs, Scelzo had 12 digs and Odham chipped in 10 digs.
Irvine Valley plays again on Wednesday at home against MiraCosta at 6 p.m.
