Women's volleyball team captures ninth victory in a row

There was no let down by the Irvine Valley women's volleyball team on Friday night.

After winning the Orange Empire Conference outright the previous week and having a bye on Wednesday, the Lasers kept pushing forward.

Irvine Valley, ranked No. 9 in the state, improved its record to 18-4 overall and 14-1 in conference with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-18 win at Fullerton.

Five players had at least four kills for the Lasers, led by freshman outside hitter Tessa Marocco with nine. Marocco added 10 digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Chloe Swanson had eight kills and a team-best 14 digs, sophomore opposite Jayli Nealy ended with seven kills and three blocks and sophomore middle blocker Kendall Fraser and freshman middle blocker Avery Bennett each finished with four kills.

Sophomore libero Gabi Brown chipped in 13 digs and four aces and sophomore Maddie Harkey and freshman Mia Bertolone shared the setting duties.

Harkey had 19 assists and three digs and Bertolone ended with 13 assists and three digs.

Irvine Valley hit .253 (37-12-99) as a team in the victory.

The Lasers wrap up the season next Tuesday at home against Santiago Canyon at 6 p.m. It is sophomore night at Irvine Valley and there will be a celebration of players before the match.
